Dia De Los Muertos

Before the break of dawn’s low-light horizon, a chatter of teeth and rattling of bones began to grow discontent in the oldest cemetery of Silliness California…

You see in years past this day would often bring the families together in remembrance and giving. As the times past and generations grew busy with the ritualistic regularities of modern urbanites, the old customs, sacred and blessed have become looked upon as quaint and less significant.

And in this place, where teeth chattered and bones rattled, it was decided that if they will no longer come to us…we will come to them. After all this is Dia De Los Muertos.

Ice-Cream Zombie-Man
Rudy’s abuello loved him very much, and every time Rudy did a trick with the yo-yo Rudy missed him. His abuello gave him that YOYO him from the ice-cream truck he drove around when he was alive. It was old and beat up after playing with it for so long, but the string never broke and it’s memory of his abuello never faded from it.

While Rudy “walked the dog” the sing-song tune of the local ice-cream truck approached along with a pack of candy and raspa-centric children trailed behind, whistling and shouting Hey! Wait!

As the Ice cream truck pulled up next to Rudy, slowing to a stop, the children caught up, gathering around the back of the truck… “I want a Raspa! Chinese Candy and a Pickle!! Pop Rocks Pop Rocks!”

Coming right up…
With half a dozen little hands raised in anticipation of their treats, the ice-cream man turns around to reveal a smiling zombie ice-cream man, his arms full of ice-cream truck treats…

As the panels move on zombie abuello reverts back to the way he looked when he was alive ans well and the coloring of the page becomes a little sepia-toned.

The Children, except for Rudy: AHHHH!!!!!!

Ice-Cream Zombie-Man: Back at them AHHHH!!!!!!

The Children, except for Rudy now smiling at his YO-YO: AHHHH!!!!!!

Ice-Cream Zombie-Man: Back at them AHHHH!!!!!!

The Children run of screaming, except for Rudy now smiling at zombie.

Zombie stops screaming looking at Rudy: Rudy?

Rudy: Abuello!!

Zombie Leaning out! RUDY!!!! Aye Mijo I was hoping to see you, that was alway my favorite part!

Rudy: Mine too Abuello! I still have my YoYo!

Zombie: Do you remember any tricks

Rudy: All of them Abuello.

Zombie: Ah veir mijo, show me again :)

The Official Report
This is Barbara Wiggins reporting to you from Sillinas Cemetary on Dia De Los Muertos, where reports of the the dead returning to the living have nt been exaggerated. You can clearly see being me a scene of an exodus from the grave. We can verify that burial plots are empty and the dead are walking. “As you can see here ..” Wait a minute, camera guy, focus on that one there….there on the back on our side…camera and he points to one right there. Zooms in particular zombie, “I think that’s my grandpa!” Grandpa!? “Hijo?” “Grandpa?!” “Mi hijo!”

BIG HUG!

Whats going on grandad, how is this happening. Well, in our graves, we were talking and we noticed for the past few years for Dia de los Muertos that nobody’s come any longer to say hello. This day remains very special to us so we decided if no one will come to us we will come to you! …I was coming for you Barbara! :)
